The International Sculpture Center welcomes new board member, Adriano Berengo

After thirty years of working to reinvent the position of glass as a medium in the world of contemporary art we are delighted to announce that Adriano Berengo, the founder of Berengo Studio and Fondazione Berengo, has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of The International Sculpture Centre (ISC). The ISC is a member-supported global nonprofit arts organization which was founded in 1960 to advance the creation and understanding of sculpture and its unique and vital contribution to society.

“I am delighted to have Adriano Berengo, a Venetian entrepreneur and founder of the Venice Project, join the ISC Board of Trustees” said Shan Shan Sheng, a Board Member and Chair of the International Affairs Committee of the International Sculpture Center. “He not only brings his business acumen, his connections to the European art world and contemporary artists worldwide, he opens the conversation on glass as a medium for contemporary sculpture.”
Sheng is also a contemporary artist in her own right, and her work Abacus-Western Zhou Dynasty, BC 1046 – BC 771 (2007) made from steel and coloured glass was featured in Glasstress Stockholm.

The appointment marks a historic moment in the history of both the Studio and Fondazione and shows just how much the attitude towards glass as a medium for fine art has changed in the thirty years that Berengo has been at work. Berengo is welcomed by ISC’s Board leadership members Jon Ott (Chair), Hilary Nitka (Vice Chair), Doug Schatz (Secretary), George Tobolowsky (Treasurer), and twenty two other dedicated members of the ISC governing body, eager to champion the ISC, oversee events and activities, and ensure that the organization is well-equipped to fulfill its mission in celebrating the art of sculpture – no matter the medium!

ISC programming includes awards to lifetime and student sculptors and patrons and educators, ISConnects, the web site www.sculpture.org, conferences and symposia, the publication of Sculpture magazine (which recently featured an article on the Fondazione Berengo exhibition Unbreakable: Women in Glass) and ISC Press books. It also provides membership services to sculptors, collectors, patrons, architects, developers, journalists, curators, historians, critics, educators, foundries and galleries with an interest in and commitment to the field of sculpture.
